South African Envoy lauds Grand Tower’s initiative

By Sunday Ojeme, Abuja Friday, 12 Aug 2011

South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Kingsley Mamabolo, has commended the efforts of Grand Towers management for adding value to the Nigerian economy, especially with the construction of an ultra-modern shopping mall in Abuja.
The high commissioner, who took a tour of the project in company with his country‘s Economic Counsellor, Mr. Nicholas Coleman, said, “We are delighted with this development as it demonstrates the ongoing trend towards strengthening the bi-national commitment between Nigeria and South Africa.”
A statement by the Organization quoted the Chairman of Grand Towers, Nze Chidi Duru, as saying that the project was conceived to enhance the lifestyle of shoppers in Nigeria since it was obvious that very few internationally styled and supported retail malls existed in the country. He added that Grand Towers would like to position itself as the market leader in this regard.
The mall is scheduled to open for business early 2012, with anchor tenant, Shoprite, and a mix of Nigerian and international patrons supporting the numerous associated line shops.
The statement noted, “Grand Towers has acquired and secured additional sites in Lagos, Abuja and other state capitals throughout the country. The malls will bring employment during both the construction phase as well as the consequential staffing of shops. ”Pivotal in the developments will be the transfer of skills as Nigerian professionals partner with their South African counterparts on the building sites.”
The mall will consist of 8,900 meter square of retail floor space, 400 parking spaces and offer over 43 shops and restaurants.
In addition to Shoprite, the mall will house other South African franchises, including Kentucky Fried Chicken, Steers, Pep Stores, MTN and Stanbic Bank.
